Frequently Asked Questions

What is a recurve crossbow?

A recurve crossbow uses limbs that curve away from the shooter, storing energy efficiently while maintaining a relatively simple mechanical design. Recurve systems have fewer moving parts than compound crossbows, making them easier to maintain and service.

Are recurve crossbows good for beginners?

Yes. Many beginners choose recurve crossbows because of their straightforward design, reliability and ease of maintenance. Models such as the Jaguar and Cobra series are popular entry points into crossbow shooting.

What is the difference between the Jaguar, Jag and Cobra models?

The Jaguar and Jag models are traditional full-size recurve crossbows offering higher draw weights and larger shooting platforms. The Cobra R9 and Cobra RX are more compact designs featuring lever-assisted cocking systems for quicker and easier reloading.

How powerful are EK Archery recurve crossbows?

Power varies by model. Compact Cobra models can achieve speeds of around 240 FPS, while larger Jag and Jaguar models offer draw weights up to 175lbs and beyond, providing strong performance for recreational target shooting.

What bolts do recurve crossbows use?

Bolt requirements vary depending on the model. Full-size recurve crossbows commonly use 16-inch bolts, while compact models may require shorter bolts specifically designed for that platform. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Are recurve crossbows easier to maintain than compound crossbows?

Generally, yes. Recurve crossbows have fewer moving components and simpler limb systems, making maintenance and string replacement more straightforward in many cases.

Are crossbows legal in the UK?

Crossbows can legally be owned and purchased in the UK by adults aged 18 and over. Users should always comply with current legislation and use crossbows responsibly in appropriate environments.
